NOW THIS IS A BEAUT ... "RARISSSIMA" TOO! a packet that's almost 70 years old, from 1947! Issued by CALCIO VAV the series title in English is, 'New Football Figures on large cardboard discs' (GRANDI DISCHI IN CARTONE)". A football cards envelope from 1947! In Italy VAV made round football cards in the 1947-48 season. They are very rare, quite large (bigger than poker chips) coloured cards, with photos inset over illustrations of soccer action that are a bit like the artwork on Baines shields. A really attractive series, very rare, and costly - and that's just the cards. This is an empty wrapper from that set. Not hard to imagine few survived - very rare indeed! This series gave us the amazing, the beautiful and the unusual plastic-backed football cards of England, Pele, Brazil, Gerry Hitchens, and many more international teams and stars, for the Chile World Cup of 1962. The cards are rare (all 3 types - the earlier, costly plastic cards, which cost 5 times the normal price of soccer cards, at the time; and then, later on, the ones made in card and then in paper; a complicated series to collect!) but it's a really attractive series, and these envelope packets are very rare too!

It's opened along 1 side and 1 end , and a little on another seam (it's opened naturally over the years) so the stickers are visible; they are all of the same series, this set, numbers 125, 197 and 199; one is an action shot; the other 2 are seemingly form a film (martial arts? Enter The Dragon? We do not know but the album issued for this series has Bruce Lee* on the cover (not available from us) so they may be from his films. Unknown.
